school starts September 14, 2008

Filed under: hari.hidup, oh school, pixel — weiqi @ 3:52 pm

There’s nothing interesting to be blog about after school starts. Daily routine was almost the same, wake up, breakfast(if i was early), go to class, lunch, class, and more class, finish class, dinner, watch movie, study a bit, then sleep. This is basically what i do everyday.
I started this semester so differently from last semester, last semester was a total mess, and i start to put things back into piece this semester. I do not know how far can i go, but this will be the start and there’s this chinese saying ” a good start will be half-way through success” =)

ok, i lied about nothing to blog about after school starts.
There’s actually orientation week going on from 3rd Sept till 12 Sept. this orientation period was meant for clubs and societies to recruit new members(mostly freshies) and promote their up-coming activities. So, most of my free time will be at the counter with my fellow ex-cos, trying to persuade the interested students to join us. it’s quite hard for us to recruit members because out society’s activities include hiking where most of the people will not like it. and the name of the society does not sound hip to them *sad*.

the counter we set up. looks so shabby =.= we tried to take this photo with self-timer until a guy from the next-door counter come and ask me y not ask people to take for us. but i just like to take self-timer, i like the angle =p
the infamous jump shot in the atrium after we cleaned up.

post-event celebration at korean style bbq and steamboat. look at the empty plates on the table, they marinated the meats so nicely, until we have to go to the food counter to get the beef again and again cause it’s too hard for us to stop. sorry i din take a lot of photos there cause i was just too busy eating XD

I am so glad i can still write something happy. i talked to my parents yesterday, they told me everything will be okay back in Malaysia. all i have to do is to take care of myself. really dunno why things will turn up like this. Is it because they are too clever or too stupid??? we never understand, just like the SHO in HKUST.

“Negaraku, Tanah tumpahnya darahku, Rakyat Hidup, Bersatu dan Maju…”

This is our national anthem that we used to sing every Monday during school assembly during school days. I still remember there is this time, we were having rehearsal for our sports day and the band were playing the national anthem. Then us, the club committee members who are the helpers for the sports day who think this is just a rehearsal so we don’t bother to stand straight. All we did during the song were stand under a tree and chat and giggle. After the song, a prefect approached us and asked us to see the discipline teacher. Yup, you are right. We were lectured for not respecting the national anthem.

Despite all the issues that happen in Malaysia in the past few months, of course there are still a lot of things in Malaysia that make it so lovable. I have to list 5 things I love about Malaysia to celebrate its 51st birthday.

#1 FOOD!!!!of course it will be the food. Who wouldn’t love the food in Malaysia?? Tell me, u will have some problems with your tastebud(I dun think I am exaggerate here) Food in Malaysia is so special because of the varieties it have.It range from Roti canai, roti planta, roti telur, roti bawang, all the roti I can’t name them all, murtabak, tosai, nasi lemak, nasi kandar, nasi goreng, all the nasi I can’t name them all, laksa, mee rebus, satay, curry, bak kut teh, wantan noodle, chee cheung fun, penang kueh teow, ipoh chicken and taugeh hor fun, kennysia’s favorite kolo mee, claypot noodle, claypot rice to snack like pisang goreng, ubi goreng, curry puff, kaya puff, ipoh heong peah, tambun peah, 鸡仔饼(chicken flavour biscuit,老婆饼(wife biscuit, rojak and all the kuih muih I can’t name all to desserts like cendol, ais batu kacang, one tou long(the yellow jelly), red bean soup, green bean soup, peanut soup, bubur cha cha, and so many many many more until I can’t remember. Can I say I don’t love them all??Of course NOT!!!! Especially coming from the city that is famous for food-IPOH!!! We can proudly say that we can get good food at any stalls in Ipoh, and the food are guarantee nicer than those we get outside.

Yong Tau Fu from Pasar Pinji (i missed it already T.T)
Kaya puff from Sun Yun Heong (i missed them too T.T T.T)
Curry Mee from Yee Fatt (no time to eat when i was back last time T.T T.T T.T)

(photos courtesy from motormouth from ipoh and ipohmalitalaksombong)

#2 The North South Highway(PLUS) – it’s one of the best highway on earth, connecting Bukit Kayu Hitam at the very north to Johor Bharu at the very south of Penisular Malaysia. It makes our travelling from one city to another is faster than it used to be. Even China had the engineers that built PLUS to build their highway because PLUS is one of the highway with the lowest accident rate during rainy days. The road is so nicely build that makes our travelling so smooth. The north south highway is the road that I would like to conquer one day, I never got the chance to drive on the highway after I got my liscense.

the highway in the evening

#3 Malaysia is outside the earthquake zone. This means we are saved from the natural disasters that grab the life to thousands when they strike. Look at the earthquake at SiChuan this year. Look at the tsunami at Indonesia in 2005. Thousands of precious of life was taken away, it’s so sad to see things like this happen to the world. The physical help that the world gave is never enough to compensate the survivors; the wound is in the heart. We should be so so so so so so grateful that we are in a country that is outside the zone and we are able to give a helping hand to others when they need us.

#4 The fruits!!!!! All the tropical fruits!!!! The King of fruits : durian, the queen of fruits : mangoesteen, and a lot of princes and princesses like pineapple, guava, papaya, banana, duku, langsat. We even have strawberries from Cameron Highlands.

durians!!!!

rambutans!!! the fresh rambutans are so nice!!!

#5 Malaysia is a tourist attraction!!! We’ve islands, we’ve highlands, we’ve mountains, we’ve forests. Malaysia is famous for the natural resources we’ve got.

Perhentian!!! look at the sea, it’s so crystal clear!!
this is Redang!!! the crystal-clear sea. best place for snorkeling and diving. i don’t know how to swim also love to see it.
Tea plantation in Cameron Highlands. there’s also strawberry farm, cactus farm, bee farm, vege far..best runaway place when you are hot.. will like to try hiking in Cameron Highlands, i remember reading one newspaper article about the forest of Cameron. it will be nice to hike in the cold weather, not so hot and sweaty.
gunung kinabalu!! even my friend in Hong Kong wants to hike there. but i never went there, cant be his tour guide.
beside this, we also have Petronas Twin Tower, Penang island, Taman Negara, Gua Nia, Genting Highlands. How can you say you don’t love this land??

it’s only a few more hours to go before the Merdeka celebration end. so i m still on time to wish Malaysia Happy 51st Birthday!!! must thank Tunku Abdul Rahman and his team for fighting for our independance. Happy Birthday!!!

Merdeka!!!Merdaka!!!Merdaka!!!

i do not unpack to post this!!! August 29, 2008

finally got some free time for myself.
i moved into my room, the room that was cleared by the cleaning ladies who didn’t clean my room. All the hairs, paper stripes and rubbish that are buried under all the luggages and boxes are now so obvious in the clean room (not so clean now, i move my luggages in already, now they are all around the room, on the floor, on the table)
so tired these few days, last friday was typhoon nuri day and i spend the whole day on campus with the Malaysian kids, then i brought them to Mongkok to be part of the summer crowd. Sunday was cycling day, more on that later. Monday was the kicked-out-of-room day, i spent the whole night finding my daily necessaries from the mountain-high luggages. Tuesday, not abit better, spent whole night looking for debit notes in the mountain-high luggages(again) with Alex and Yong Yong but we din even see the tip of the paper. all the things are just so not in order, they just throw everything in gigantic black plastic bag, it’s so hard to figure out what are the things in a certain bags.
then after the dinner gathering yesterday, i checked-in to my room and moved most of my luggages back to the room(i cant figure out what i left behind, they are just too many) and i left them all unpacked and went to sleep. fyi, that was already 2.00am when i finish moving in.

ok, enough of moaning. let’s share some happy moments.

i am finally done with this summer industrial training. no more waking up at 7.00am and traveling for 1 hour to PolyU with my half-awake brain and half-open eyes. Last week was the CAD week, this week was electronics week. We are suppose to make 4 electronic devices in our 4 days of training, ie alram clock, mini organ(the music instrument, not those in your body), decision maker and music box. But because we progress like little tortoise, we do not manage to make the music box. After this module, i decided to drop the elec101 that i registered this semester, don’t think i am able to handle this course, i was so confuse with all the electronics stuffs, especially when the instructor teaching in Cantonese(again), all the terms he use i also don’t understand. so shitty.

by the way, must show you what make during this four days. i paid $10 for the 3 devices i made. have to prove to my parents i got go for my trainings ma..haha..

this is practice for cable and harness. we have to work with all the tiny things. but this one cannot bring back, he give me i also don’t wan, the thing so huge, take up so many space and useless to me.

this is the alarm clock i made!!!!haha, the display screen cacat one. instructor said must be something wrong with the mini chip. mine is good enough to show two and a half numbers, some are not working. (ok, my name was upside down, i didn’t know which direction to place when i write my name)

this is the back of the alram. the chip that operates the digital alarm was placed under the black mould. because we place that manually, everything was so inaccurate so the alarm is a bit cacat here and there.

this is the decision maker, there’s 6 LED on the board, when u push the little switch, the LED will blink and only one LED will light in the end. kononnya, it’s to help you decide when you don not know how to, but must have 6 options, what if i only got 4 and the LED that light up is the other 2??? i was the 2nd last to finish this project on the very last day, ei, nope, i was the 2nd last to finish among those who finished. four of us stayed until 6pm to finish the device. it’s so exciting to see the LED blinking and the beeper beeping..*clap hands*

this is the mini organ(the music instrument, not those in your body, sweat) we were given a diagram and was asked to design our own circuit, we got to decide how we want to place the tiny devices. i didn’t know that you can make an organ with different values resistors. my organ very funny because i place one line wrongly so my organ now sound do-mi-re instead of do-re-mi..and the ti is one semitone flat..sweat.

haha..this is sanura. want to act cool when he solder. alex, the mechanic at the background(his jacket make him look like mechanics..haha..)

ok, that’s the end.

i don’t want to unpack liao, i want go sleep. good night. sleep tight. sweet dreams. bye bye.

i was damn unlucky today.

i was kicked out from my room because i forgot to extend my summer residential period. The cleaning ladies cleared up my room when i was away. i don’t know how long they took. My room was packed with the luggage of 6 person, specifically, 6 non-local female students. Everything we have is in the room. Luggage was piling from the floor to the ceiling, yet the cleaning ladies manage to move everything out. I need to thank them for doing me this favour.

sigh. luckily there is an empty bed in my senior’s room, so i will be staying in her room for 2/3 days until i can move back. to the exactly same room and same bed. very confusing right?? they moved everything out and then i’ll need to move everything back again. then they still charged me for checking out late. i rather they let me stay in the room and charged me than making me moving the luggages and still charge me.

luckily there’s still shanshan here to organize the luggages they moved to the temporary storage room. i shall take a photo of the luggage of us in the storage. then you will be amuse by how we manage to stay in the room packed with stuffs. (too bad i deleted all the photos of the room because my camera memory was full yesterday. i did not expect they will move our things out, so i think i can still take the photos again.)

sigh again. anyway, this will be a good lesson to everyone, especially the juniors. Do remember to check e-mail for often.

/* finally the eye of the typhoon leave SaiKung and moving upwards to New Territories. rain stop. wind dies. good. two crackers for nuri.*/

it’s typhoon 9 day. typhoon Nuri is in Hong Kong today. hah, the parrot typhoon according to my local friend.

strong winds and heavy rain, since this morning. i was waken up by the hall attendance to close my windows this morning at 7 something. it was already raining at that time. The last time i “met” a typhoon was a #3 typhoon in March. that was not a very bad one, i can still go out. but this time, it’s just so hard to go out, i can felt the wind pushing me away with it. It’s so hard to move in the opposite direction of the wind, the force is strong enough to blow a baby away.

by the way, i came out today to meet with a group of Malaysian freshies. These people are so lucky, to witness the typhoon on their second day in HK. since we have nothing to do and they have nothing to do. we cant go out, they cant online, so we bring them to look around the school. Time flies so fast, last year we were here and we were guided by Jack who also did the same to show us around. We even end up having lunch in the same restaurant like last year. wtf. ok lar, that is not many restaurant to choose from.

anyway, because of the typhoon, we cant go anywhere except staying in UST. the uni is so boring with all the facilities off.

i am now blogging from the computer barn where i had my training of CAD. please don’t tell my instructor that i am actually not paying attention in what he’s saying. he was babbling there in Cantonese where it’s so hard for me to fully understand it. I am just not used to listen to Cantonese in class. during school days, there was always Mandrarin, English and Mala, there’s never Cantonese. Cantonese is only for conversation purpose. haih, how i wish Sanura was here, then the instructor will have to teach in English *evil laugh* but then, everyone will have problem understanding him, because his English is not that good. just now he was telling us something about AC$. he read it as “A-C-Dollar”, but i keep hear it as “A-C-Dora”, i keep look through the hand out but i cant find any dora-look-alike word on the page, in the end only i realise he was trying to say dollar =.=

it is so much hotter and warmer here in Hong Kong than in Malaysia. Malaysia is well known for its location near the equator and it’s summer all year long over there. but during summer, it’s so much hotter in Hong Kong. the temperature is almost the same in both places, but the heat in Hong Kong, i suppose it’s so much more than in Malaysia. All the heat are trapped in this city that built up of sky scrapers, the heat is even worse in crowded places like Mongkok. You’ll want to stay indoor,oh,no, not indoor, but stay in an air-con room to prevent you from hydrating. Just like my room, it is like an oven without the baking plate all day long, haih, have to spend money to on the air-con. The only time i can stand the heat it when i sleep because i do not have the habit to sleep with the air-con on.

That day i went for dinner with CS, my ex-hall tutor. he brought me to a restaurant that i wouldn’t go if wasn’t him.Its a authentic restaurant located in Sun Po Kong, it is says to serve the best ku lou meat(sweet and sour pork) in Hong Kong. it is really good. after dinner, we walked over to Kowloon City, acording to CS, it is the forgotten Hong Kong. Kowloon City was the area next to the old airport(Kai Tak Airport), that’s why the building in the area are not as tall as those u found else where. This is one of the area that i never really heard before, maybe it’s because the area is not connected by MTR, but it is at walk-able distance to Diamond Hill. CS recommended a few thai restaurant and a few dessert shop around that area. There’s also a shop that sell very nice egg tarts, they still sell freshly bakes egg tarts around 9pm, that’s unusual for normal bakery. I shall go there again next time, for thai foos and dessert and egg tarts. LF you wan come along??be prepare for a long walk.
